The first 4 songs on the recording "All That You Can't Leave Behind" for me are the best collections of helpful songs for life that I can think of. This is one of the reasons why U2 became such a source of healing and comfort to our Nation and the World after the attacks of 9/11. The CD was released in the fall of 2000 and after the attacks the songs rang with such hope. All I know is for me it was the healing touch of God. They were the first band to play in New York after the attacks. They were the first to play in Sarajevo after the war there. They seem to be called upon in many situations like this. The half time show for the Superbowl that year after the attacks, was scrapped after the organizer saw them in concert and just felt they were suppose to perform there. Bono said during the recording of the CD it felt like God walked through the room. He had no idea at that moment how these songs would comfort so many.
Beautiful Day
Stuck In A Moment
Elevation
and Walk On
give me such encouragment for the journey. It's a beautiful day, don't let it get away. Touch me, take me to that other place. Teach me, I know I’m not a hopeless case. When I get stuck in a moment in life and can't seem to get out of it, I'm reminded that if the night runs over and if the day won't last and if our way should falter along the stony pass. It's just a moment and this time will pass.
While stuck in a moment, His spirit reminds me that He is the one that can elevate me out of the mess. Love, lift me out of these blues won't you tell me something true I believe in you. And then I am encouraged to Walk on, walk on, what you got they can’t steal it, no they can’t even feel it. Walk on, walk on...Stay safe tonight. And I know it aches and your heart it breaks and you can only take so much. Walk on, walk on.
There is something about songs that can convey the message of God to us at times that scripture might be much harder to recall. That is what is so awsome about art. The parables Jesus told seem to have that same staying power. They are also art and the pictures they paint stick with us and encourage and challenge us. Music is also a great way to share these truths to the culture that so often seems to be suspicious of the Church.
