of September 11. And the cycle that began a long time ago that continues to lead us to more tragic events. Just think of the waste of lives because of hate. There is enough of that going around and it continues to take lives. God has a way out of the nightmare. But do we live like we believe it?

To answer your post title question - to get to love, what's it going to take? - unfortunately I think the answer is death. We have to die to our own shit.
One day, my dear Kent. One day :)
Sue, it is death to the false self life that must happen and it isn't as easy as saying "I am dead to that former way." Something real does have to happen in us.
Religion has been disasterous to us all because it becomes a substitute for the true self that can only find expression through freedom. And not the psuedo freedom that is really greed in disguise. If we are not self sacrificing people, loving those around us, and we are instead, people that live in fear of those around us, again....we are not free.
When we can feel justified for any reason to hurt people(physically or emotionally) and be ugly to people, or attempt to control people or manipulate them with fear or even being nice to them to get what we want....there is more than good reason to believe we are not free.
Religion leaves these things intact and causes us to feel justified for many different reasons as we continuing to live this way with those here in front of us and those abroad. Religion tells us it is what God wants because we are right and that must mean everyone else that disagrees is wrong. Religion isn't about freedom....it is about greed, and I don't mean just the love of money. It is the love of self and everything one needs to make that self life happy and fulfilled.
Yeah, absolutely, Kent. It's a challenge to realise how much 'religion' still needs to be burnt out of this lil heart ... but all in its time.
I'm reading The God's Honest Trust at the moment - wow. Have you read it?
