OVER THE RHINE IN A NEW WAY....AT LEAST FOR ME

Well, I will start with this.......What a fun show. I can't wait to hear from all of my blog friends that are going to see then in a couple weeks.

I have never seen OTR like this before. As Linford says, "Quiet music that demands to be played loud." They were loud and they ROCKED. The first 3 times I saw them it was more of an acoustic set. Mickey is the drummer that is touring with them and he added an element that transformed the evening to a loud rock show. There was also some inspired playing by Jake on electric guitar. Linford and Karin were having so much fun with these two and each other.

They sounded as good as ever and Karin was spot on as always. The songs from The Trumpet Child were great and the song by the same name was clearly one of the highlights, if not the highlight.....again. Long Lost Brother from the CD Ohio is just an awesome song and I will never get tired hearing it. I was glad to see it a part of the set list.

Don't Wait For Tom was awesome live and I had wondered how they were going to pull that one off. They did. And yes, Karin plays the cookie sheet for that one. If you are not familiar with Tom Waits, the lyrics to this one will remain an unsolvable mystery to you. Just enjoy it as a fun song. I could go on and on and say something about every song they played being so great, and they were, but I will spare you all that. For those of you reading this that have plans to see them soon, you will not be disappointed. I just wish I could be with you all when you go. Maybe someday?

Glad you had a cool time. I'd LOVE to come giggin' with ya, but the airfare's a bit steep ;)

Am listening through on my second listen. These guys are really good - I love Karin's voice and the lyrics are just excellent.

I look forward to more OTR purchases :)

Two more weeks!

I have to say that I am a bit disappointed to hear it's not more of an acoustic set ... oh well.

I am still looking forward to it!

Cynthia, you will still get the feeling of an acoustic show. It was just OTR's acoustic show with a big dose of Mickey on the drums and a bigger emphasis on Jake's electric guitar. Both of these guys had Karin and Linford in what looked like a trance at times of humorous disbelief. Grins plastered firmly on their faces and and laughter at other times.

Back during the tour in support of the release of Ohio when Karin and Linford realized that their relationship needed some serious attention, they canceled the rest of the dates of the tour shortly after it started so they could go home and try to save their marriage. It was that Ohio tour, from what I understand, that they were blowing the roof off these place they were playing. They blew the roof off the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill last night.

No worries Cynthia....I think you will love this show.

Kent, thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see them! I was wondering about Don't Wait For Tom. It's such a fun song to listen to, though as you said, is unsolvable (at least for my brain).

A TGJ concert trip would be a blast!!
