LOVE OR FEAR...IT'S ONE OR THE OTHER

Fear leads people to do crazy things. Fear ends up causing us to think that taking up power and using it against others makes sense. It's the mistaken notion the world attempts to live by. It's kinda like suicide beginning to make sense to someone who has lost hope. It twists and destroys everything it touches as long as one remains trapped in it. Every relationship we enter will be unhealthy if we continue to operate from a place of fear.

Love is the only thing that can break fear's hold on us. It's an invitation that requires a response on our part...and in the end it is his love for us that makes that response possible.

Tina, this is so stunning to me to have had my eyes opened to the continuous unbroken environment of fear we all are surrounded by.

The absurdity of it all is difficult to believe. Fear warps everything. The most repeated encouragement in scripture is "Do not be afraid." The culture we live in feeds us a constant dose of fear and has even made us believe it is entertainment.

Spend some time meditating and pondering that. Fear is an enemy to our freedom in God.

I watched one of my daughters begin to have anxiety attacks while she and her two sisters and mom spent several days on a Grey's Anatomy marathon. And that is just one TV program that exploits our fears. We are surrounded by it.

I'm in total agreement!

It seems to me that many if not most people see the story of the fall as being about pride; wanting to be as God. Since we were made in the image of God and Jesus talks about us being one with him and him being one with God that just doesn’t make sense. To me, the story is about fear. Fear that God is withholding something from us. So we set God up as a rival and try to get something from him that we think he doesn’t want us to have. Jesus refuted that lie by allowing himself to be killed as a rival then returning with no hint of vengeance and telling those to whom he appeared to spread the good news.

Diane, maybe it happens in many different ways with us all? But it was the exposing of the controlling aspects of fear in my life that began at first a domino effect of illusions (lies) falling in my life and from that, trust began to just emerge. Trust is not an act I exercise, it just is what it is. What Father says to me is true and I can rest in that always being the case.

I like the domino analogy. I can see those dominos being knocked down by love starting with Jesus' love knocking over those who knew him, their love knocking over others and so on down to today. Who is my love dis-illusioning?

As said above, so below.

And oooh, I love that pic of perfect love casting out fear :)

Rock on, Kentster dear. And I love what you said here in the comments about trust being something that just emerges, rather than something you need to wield or exercise. How true.

And of course trust means that you can go deeper and deeper and cast out even more of that fear, the stuff that you've held so tightly against you for so long that it's joined itself to you, and you didn't even realise that it's not a part of you.

Sue, it really is an incremental process.

It is. Or else we'd explode under the pressure if we were changed too quickly :)

Still ...

I WANT TO BE PERFECTED RIGHT NOW, DAMMIT!!!!!
