VERY FEW PEOPLE REALLY KNOW

Here are some of the lyrics to a song from The Innocence Mission that so captures the simplicity of the transforming power of just showing someone that they are loved.

"Nobody knows, darling.
Nobody knows how they are loved.
Don't worry, my darling, the sun's coming up.

Let's get up early now, dive clear into the day.
Let's get out of the car with open arms,
not wait to be embraced.
The flowers that grew, the things that happened
since the day you came.

Nobody knows, darling.
Nobody knows how they are loved.
Don't worry, my darling, the sun's coming up."

As my day got rolling this morning my thoughts went to this post I made late Yesterday and I felt like revisiting it and attempting to explain what I was wanting to express. Much of the Christian teaching that most people have heard has really damaged and in some cases made KNOWING we are loved by our creator an impossibility. People are left with such uncertainty about something that to me seems so certain. And here is what I am feeling this morning in regards to all of this: DON'T WORRY MY DARLING, THE SUN'S COMING UP.

I sense a ground swell in people throwing off the fear that is created by not knowing that they are loved and moving into a place of assurance, a place of faith, knowing that Father's love for them is certain and immovable. This shift begins to change everything. One of those things that changes is it moves people in this life to a place of not needing to be embraced by the other before they embrace because they have come to understand they are being embraced first by Father Son and Spirit. That sounds like and looks like what we see in Jesus, does it not?

The destructive outcome of much of the teaching we have received leaves people in a place of only embracing a few. And the few are usually people who look and act like they look and act. Now, does that sound like or look like Jesus?

The outcome, or should I say, the fruit, that I am seeing in people who are learning to embrace whomever is in front of them because they are beginning to rest in the assurance that Father Son and Spirit perfectly accept them, compared to the fruit produced by the guessing game people are caught up in based upon performance and adherence to a moral code or even worse, simply left wondering if they happen to be one of the lucky ones that God does love, seals the deal for me.

So I say:

"Let's get up early now, dive clear into the day.
Let's get out of the car with open arms,
and not wait to be embraced."

This is only possible when we come to know we are loved perfectly and without end or measure. These things were made perfectly clear about our place in the heart of God the day he came to walk among us. And those awakening to these truths are invited to walk among those we are surrounded by, as we live, breathe, and move throughout our lives in the abiding presence of Father, Son, and Spirit
