Every year, especially for the past 9 years, has been very different than the one before. I feel this is going to be especially true concerning 2015. And I really have no inkling as to how that will play out. And that is as it should be.

And I will not be commanded,
And I will not be controlled,
And I will not let my future go on,
without the help of my soul

It is scary for us to do. To open ourselves up, to really open ourselves up to the conversation life really wants to have with us. We have been made to be so afraid of wandering outside some kind of protective frame that has been placed around us to keep us "safe" where we never really enter into the mystery and beauty and danger of the conversation which desires to open us up to a never ending progression of discovery.

Often times what we come to accept as the light and good ends up not being so, but instead is more like walls that really keep us from what we need.

"With no consideration, no pity, no shame They've built walls all around me, thick and high And now I sit here feeling hopeless I can't think of anything else This fate gnaws my mind Because I had so much to do outside When they were building the walls How could I have not noticed But I never heard the builders, not a sound Imperceptibly they've closed me off from the outside world." ~ C.P  Cavafy

Sweet Darkness

When your eyes are tired

the world is tired also.

When your vision has gone
no part of the world can find you.

Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.

There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.

The dark will be your womb

The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.

You must learn one thing:
the world was made to be free in.

Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.

Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn

anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive

is too small for you.

Most of today was spent no farther than about ten feet away from this water feature. The photo with the Cardinal was one of the first shots, the second photo is one of the last. And right here, in this space, the day offered up a full day of nourishing/nurturing experience for me to slip into and linger within.

Some might think that sounds boring. My response to that, even if it was, what is wrong with bored? I would argue that it is the filling of every moment of the day with activity that is more a problem. If you get bored easily and have to have some kind of activity going on all the time, I would suggest that it very well might be boredom that is your doorway into a full, and fulfilled, and exciting beyond belief life.

Solitude is one of the most precious things in the human spirit. It is different from loneliness. When you are lonely, you become acutely conscious of your own separation. Solitude can be a homecoming to your own deepest belonging. One of the lovely things about us as individuals is the incommensurable in us. In each person, there is a point of absolute nonconnection with everything else and with everyone. This is fascinating and frightening. It means that we cannot continue to seek outside ourselves for things we need from within. The blessings for which we hunger are not to be found in other places or people. These gifts can only be given to you by yourself. They are at home at the hearth of your soul.
